Cat Food Delivered Right to Your Doorstep!

March 23, 2011 By Joi

Alexa and Svenn

I’ve been reading about and researching PetFlow, a pet food delivery company. What I’ve come up with is this – how come no one thought of this before?!?!

This is absolutely brilliant and could be a really valuable service for a lot of people.

  • Older cat and/or dog owners who really don’t like getting out often.  Quite frankly, they don’t even have to be that old! Some people simply don’t like running errands and are getting pretty creative about having their errands come to them.
  • Pet lovers who live in very rural areas.  We once lived so far out in the “boondocks” that it took 30 minutes to get to a grocery store.  If we wanted to go to the nearest Wal-Mart, it was an extra 5 minutes.
  • People (like myself) who work full-time from home HATE having to get up, leave their work, go to the store, and come back to the work.  I can say, without a doubt, that this kills any and all momentum you’ve built up.  If you’re a writer, graphic artist, web publisher, or web designer – good luck jumping back ON the train of creativity after you’ve stepped off.  It’s nearly impossible.  But saving errands for the end of the day isn’t much better – that’s when the stores are the busiest… plus that’s when you need to be cooking supper, eating supper, reading the paper, and spending quality time with family (which naturally includes the ones who wear permanent fur coats).

PetFlow is the solution to a time-crunch problem many pet lovers have and it’s just about as simple as it could possibly be.  You search for the product/brands you want, set up a delivery schedule and check out.  In a few days your cat or dog’s food arrives at your door.  Think how excited your pet will be to get his or her own package.  As we all know, they’re just like kids… and little kids at that.

Visit PetFlow to browse the brands they have and read more about their service.

Adorable Cat Toy for Cats Who Just Wanna Have Fun

May 17, 2010 By Joi

ETHICAL/SPOT SPRING DING CAT TOYS ASSORTED

Presenting your precious cat with a new toy is every bit as fun and rewarding as presenting a child with a new toy. And why not, our pets are our babies after all! Not only are cat toys fun for cats to play with – giving them entertainment and enjoyment, cat toys are also vital to a cat’s health. They provide a little exercise for your cat (or a lot, depending upon your cat’s energy level!).

Cat toys also keep an inside cat, who doesn’t have other cats or dogs to play with, from getting bored. They keep her mind active and provide a level of the unexpected that she craves nearly as much as she craves tuna. Nearly.

I recently bought Alexa a new toy and she has delighted herself with it for hours since.

Her favorite toys are balls and she’s absolutely on top of the kitty world when we’re in the floor playing baseball. I roll it to her and she swats it with her paw back toward me. She can’t be bothered with running the bases, of course, because she’s conserving her energy and has been since she was a day old.

She also doesn’t go for any “loose” balls if I happen to roll it too far to the left or too far to the right. It’s up to me to retrieve all of these, as well as the ones she swats pass me.

I get quite a workout crawling around like a 12 month old.

Alexa has a toy box (actually a basket) that she loves to grab toys from – but, of course (like all kids) she never puts them back. That’s also left to me.

Cats just love toys like the ETHICAL/SPOT SPRING DING CAT TOYS ASSORTED above. Alexa has this adorable cat toy pegged as the next addition to her toy collection.

Since she is one pampered little girl, it’s jut a matter of time. I look forward to chasing this cute little cat toy around… and then putting it back where it goes.

One of us has to.

*** Cat Toy Safety: Be sure to examine your cat’s toys for pieces that have come loose – small parts that could choke your cat. Also, never allow anything near your cat that she could get wrapped around her neck.

Alexa once had, somehow, found a long paper ribbon left over from Christmas. She managed to get part of it down her throat and was as struggling to pull it out. Thanks be to God, I happened to be walking through the room at the time and pulled it out.

Our Handsome Feral Kitten, Jelly Bean

September 12, 2009 By Joi

One of Ming Li’s kittens, Jelly Bean, has become a member of the family.  Since his mom (Ming Li) and dad (Jet Li) were both feral, he’s very, very cautious of humans – including this cat-obsessed human even.  However, unlike his two siblings (nameless until I determine their sexes), he comes close enough to touch.

He lives in the garage with Hannah and she has sort of assumed a motherly role with him.  Ming Li came through about a week ago and was majorly pregnant.  I haven’t seen her for a few days, but I have a feeling that when she shows up again, she’ll be her slender self again.  Jelly Bean went running up to her, glad to see his cat mommy – but she hissed at him and stopped him in his tracks.  He ran back to Hannah’s side.

Can’t say I blame him!

A few nights ago, I took out a couple of Alexa’s toys to entertain Hannah and Jelly Bean.   Hannah is hilarious when she plays.  She’ll sit really still, acting like she’s only half-interested in the ball, feather cat toy, catnip mouse (whatever).  As I rub her head, she seems only interested in that – nothing else in the world seems to matter.  Then, all of a sudden, she’ll prance on the toy and give it heck.

Then…. back to the head rubs.

The first time Jelly Bean saw a toy ball, he looked so adorable sweet it brought tears to my eyes.  He hunkered down, sort of unsure of what he’d do next, then he threw caution out the window and joyously pounced on the ball.  Then he swatted it in my direction.  When I rolled it back to him, he swatted it back again.

Even wild, feral babies enjoy a good game of pitch and catch.

His siblings – who are both beautiful with dark gray fur and black stripes – always watch the playing but never approach a toy until I’ve gone back inside.   When it comes to cats, patience is my middle name, so I’ll win them over.  Funny thing is, these two are going to be really hard to tell apart.  One was a lot smaller, but it has caught up with the other one.   Jelly Bean is totally and completley black – even the bottoms of his paws are black.  He doesn’t have any white or gray on him whatsoever.

When I lost Bo and Svenn, the outdoors (which I’d always loved with a passion) just seemed sad and empty to me.  I can’t tell you what a blessing it is to have Hannah, Jelly Bean, Ming Li (when she shows), and ???? and ??????.  It’s as though God knew how empty my yard felt to me and filled it with something that means the world to me – precious, beautiful, wonderful cats!

**** I’ll add pictures of the kittens as soon as possible – I also have new pics of Alexa and Hannah to add.

Are Black Cats Good Luck or Bad Luck?

October 27, 2008 By Joi

Janie

Black cats are sometimes thought to symbolize bad luck. But they haven’t always had that reputation.

King Charles I of England was absolutely convinced that his beloved black cat was his good luck charm. He carried his pet everywhere with him – he was never without it by his side.

When the cat died, the King was distraught and grieved for it deeply. He was also convinced that all of his good fortune died along with his “good luck charm.”  He told others that his life would never be the same again and that all his luck was gone.

The very next day, he was arrested and subsequently beheaded! Think maybe he was onto something?!

One of the sweetest cats I ever had was a black beauty named Renee Elise.  She was completely good luck for me and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. My daughter Emily and her husband Dill have a gorgeous black cat named “Janie” and I can’t imagine life without my grandkitty. She’s a real character and bad luck is the last thing I’d ever associate with her!

Healthy, Natural Cat Food that Makes Over-Protective Parents Smile

March 27, 2008 By Joi

Nature's Variety Prairie Homestyle Canned Cat Food - Lamb & Liver 5.5 oz. Can - Case of 24 With Nature’s Variety Prairie Homestyle Canned Cat Food – Lamb & Liver 5.5 oz. Can – Case of 24 – you provide your babies wiht a home-cooked taste with high quality nutrition.  These chunky stew formulas are made with real meat, poultry and healthy fruits and vegetables.

I admit it, I’m an overly protective mother, whether it comes to my daughters or my cats.  I even tend to overly guard the raccoons, possums, birds, and rabbits I feed as well as the skunks who sometimes help themselves into the scene – Right before everyone and everything else, except Svenn, flees.  Svenn loves skunks and could watch them for hours.  (And, yes, I do name each one….okay, maybe not all the birds…)  I care very much what my cats eat, and I watch their food like a hawk, especially after all of the controversites and tragedies.

A few of the “tainted” animal food manufacturers are back on the shelves again – and, while I’m sure they’ve taken unbelievable efforts to ensure their safety, I have to admit – I can’t bring myself to buy them ever again.

If I were them, I would have re-packaged everything, provided new names, new logos, etc.  I certainly wouldn’t have put the food back in the same packages that pet lovers had to throw away and hope and pray our pets weren’t going to die!

If you’re like me, you’re probably looking more and more into the natural products like the ones featured in this post. Click the link at the top or the cans below to learn more about a brand that’s as good as it gets.  As Svenn would say, “It’s almost as endearing as skunks.”  One of these days I’m going to have to break it to my husband – that cat’s not quite normal.

Because Hairballs Aren’t Sexy

February 10, 2008 By Joi

Never fear! The FURminator is here! The FURminator De-Shedding Cat Tool Purple is one thing a house with long-haired cats shouldn’t be without. Not only for the sake of carpets, clothes, and furniture – but also for people with allergies. The FURminator could make life a whole lot sweeter.According to my two female cats (both of whom have gloriously long hair), the best thing about the FURminator De-Shedding Cat Tool, however, is the reduction of hairballs. According to them, hairballs are never pleasant. So hard to look elegant and mysterious when your eyes are bulging, your tongue’s hanging out and you sound like your lungs are coming out of your mouth. I’m just saying…

From the web site:

FURminator De-Shedding Tool for Cats reduces shedding up to 90 percent and also helps to eliminate hairballs in cats. Reduces the amount of airborne elements that cause allergic reactions in many people. Works great on long or short-hair cats!

Cool Highrise for The Coolest Cats

February 10, 2008 By Joi

Highrise Play House for Cats 30L x 22W x 95-108H
The Highrise Play House for Cats measures 30L x 22W x 95-108H, which is just enough to convince Alexa that she’s queen of the jungle and the rest of us are her Majesty’s prey.We all know how important it is for cats to stay active and entertained. It’s important to their physical well-being and vital to their mental and emotional health. Cats get depressed when they’re bored, which is why I’m always looking for new and creative things to throw into our cats’ lives. Anything to keep their little minds and bodies happy and busy!

I’m not sure my precious little Prissy could climb very high – even if she was remotely interested (it’s hard to take on great heights when you’re 312 years old), but Alexa, Bo, and Svenn would think they’d passed on to Kitty Heaven when they laid eyes on this.

From the web site:

Our Tallest Cat Tree Yet! Floor-to-ceiling design made for multi-cat households. Features 4 levels of highrise fun, 9 sections of sisal (last section of sisal adjusts to fit low to high ceilings), sturdy rectangular base, soft plush fabric, ramp to 1st level for older cats, roomy square hut, sleeping tunnel, grooming arch, yarn ball and a cuddle bed on top.

Amazing! Click the link above or the image to take a closer look. You’re cat will love you (even more) for it.

Beautiful “MinJee”
We have inside and outside cats and we love them all like family. The beauty, above, is MinJee and she is as sweet as she is gorgeous.

If the spoiled inside crew would allow it, needless to say they’d ALL be inside. As it is, our outside cats have their own custom-built wooden homes and penthouses and, yes, they are all equipped with heating pads for the cold months.

We also feed and care for feral cats. Some honor us by following us home and allowing us to give them a forever home and to, more importantly, be their forever family.
