20 Things You Didn’t Know About Catnip (Infographic)

October 1, 2017 By Joi

Like all self-respecting cats, our cats are crazy wild about catnip and catnip toys. They lose their little minds! We keep extra bags of catnip and all-natural catnip spray on hand to lightly “rev up” their toys and bedding areas.

One of the biggest hits of any cat toy we’ve ever seen is the catnip banana guy below. I’m not sure what it is exactly, but we’ve actually had to buy extras of this one because they never want to share him. There’s just something about him they’re nuts about.

Pet Adoptions and Rehoming: Animal Shelters Need Our Help (Infographic)

April 6, 2017 By Joi

The infographic below shows just how greatly local humane shelters need our help and support. It’s a very real problem and it’s a growing problem, especially here in the States. Do all you can – even if it’s just donating dry food or cans to your local shelter. – Joi (“Joy”)

Pawsome Gifts That’ll Make Your Cat or Dog AND You Will Love

December 23, 2016 By Joi

Cats and dogs are like family for most of us – they’re furry little children that we love with all of our heart and then some. I’ve always known this, but it was recently “brought home” yet again when a member of our family (who happens to walk on all fours, have whiskers, and wear a coat of fur) scared the wits out of us by becoming VERY ill VERY suddenly – as in out of the blue.

One day, he was fine, getting into absolutely everything and strutting around like John Wayne… then the next, he was completely lifeless. I have never, in all my years of being a proud “cat mom” and admitted “crazy cat lady” seen a cat get sick that fast. It threw us for a loop.

He is fine now and is, as I’m writing these words, strutting around like the Duke.  Thank you God!

Naturally, when it comes to gift-giving, we buy Christmas, birthday, and sometimes even “just because” gifts for our cats and, of course, dogs too (those of you who’s cats allow them to have dogs, anyway – mine flatly forbid it). Petco is a personal favorite place to shop for our cats – they have absolutely everything imaginable  – toys, furniture, food, treats, beds, dishes… etc. It’s just a really fun website to browse around and even funner to open a box that’s been delivered as your furry family member watches.

LOVE that!

Something else I really enjoy is their “Cat Community.” You can learn a lot there – knowledge from other cat families.

The infographic, below, is from Petco and lists three awesome (Pawsome, if you will) gifts for your animals that’ll make their (and your) life easier. Great ideas – in fact, the cat fountain is on my radar and I am BEYOND intrigued by the remote treat dispenser!

Save Your Floors, Rugs, and Woodwork from Your Cats and Dogs!

June 6, 2016 By Joi

save your floor from your pet infographic
Save your floor from your pet infographic by The Rug Seller

The inforgraphic (which is off the charts adorable and informative, by the way!) is dead on when it comes to keeping your cat from scratching her claws on woodwork – you have to…

  1. Give her an alternative… close by the spot where she’s fond of scratching. If she has several spots.. you’re going to need several scratching posts. My favorite ones to use are actually the cheapest. Have you ever seen the cardboard/catnip-treated ones in the pet aisle at your grocery store or department store? LOVE those! They’re cheap – so getting one for several different spots in the house is doable – and they can be easily replaced.
  2. Cover up the woodwork or areas she likes to scratch! Again the infographic lists several ideas – here’s the one I’ve had the most success with:
      SmartyKat Anti-Scratch Barrier Tape

    (pictured below).

This tape is a sanity (and woodwork!) saver. It couldn’t be easier to use – you simply put the tape over the area being scratched – be sure to start “high” enough because a cat usually stretches out to scratch on woodwork. You’ll want to order at least two – but here’s the cool thing, once I removed it from a few spots, Alexa completely forgot about them. SmartyKat also has a spray that acts as a deterrent, too. You can click the same link (above) to check out the spray. I’m not familiar with it, but if it’s as good as the tape, it’s a must have!

Beautiful “MinJee”
We have inside and outside cats and we love them all like family. The beauty, above, is MinJee and she is as sweet as she is gorgeous.

If the spoiled inside crew would allow it, needless to say they’d ALL be inside. As it is, our outside cats have their own custom-built wooden homes and penthouses and, yes, they are all equipped with heating pads for the cold months.

We also feed and care for feral cats. Some honor us by following us home and allowing us to give them a forever home and to, more importantly, be their forever family.
