Adorable! This cat’s expression reminds me of a few people in my family – if you wake them, they appreciate it as much as this little guy does!

I’ve been pricing cat trees for our inside girl, Alexa.  Our outside girls and boys have plenty of trees, barns, logs, lofts, etc. to climb on, but I know Alexa would love a cat tree placed near a window.

Since she broke her leg last year, I’ve been extra cautious about her climbing on just anything, so safety is top on my list… as it should be on everyone’s.

I found a great article a few minutes ago about building your own cat tree and thought I’d share it with you.  Click the link and get your tools ready!  What a wonderful way to make sure that your cat furniture is well made and safe.

Yesterday, my daughter Emily and I went to the Library. As always, I immediately headed to the books about animals and birds first. My route is pretty predictable: I look for books about cats, birds, polar bears, tigers, and other animals that fascinate me… then I look for new books in the Spiritual aisle… then I head directly for the cookbooks. When I leave, my arms are full of great new adventures!

One of the books I grabbed yesterday was The Ultimate Cat Lover: The Best Experts’ Advice for a Happy, Healthy Cat with Stories and Photos of Fabulous Felines by Marty Becker. This book is moving me mightily! First of all, there is a picture inside that looks a lot like my beloved Svenn and another one looks just like my beloved Bo. I still miss these little guys so much, and seeing the resemblances made my eyes fill with tears.

There’s also a picture of a cat that looks like my precious Prissy would have looked if she had eaten 2 pigs, 4 roosters, 18 hamsters, and Bo and Svenn.  It’s a big, beautiful baby!  It brought a smile to my face, which was most welcomed at the time.  Isn’t it amazing that our cats can affect us so strongly, even after they’re gone?

I also had a good old emotional moment while reading the second story in the book, “George and Gracie.” Powerful stuff!  Not all of the stories result in misty eyes – many result in smiles and even laughter.

These stories (and pictures) remind us of just how special cats are. They are utterly magnificent little creatures and I couldn’t imagine the world (or my home or yard) without them. I highly recommend this beautiful book for all cat lovers. I plan on ordering my own copy, so I’ll have it to enjoy long after I’ve taken the library copy back.

There’s also a great section filled with cat tips and little known facts.

Click the link above to order this very special book on Amazon for jut $10.  I know you’re going to love this book!

4 Level Cat House - Navy Blue

One of the things at the top of my “Gotta get next” list is this 4 Level Cat House.  I love the blue color but they’re available in just about every color you can imagine.  I can just see Alexa’s face when she realized it was for her (then again she thinks everything’s for her). I know she’d have endless hours of fun climbing, perching, and exploring this cat house.  We’ll enjoy watching her as much as she enjoys living the high life!

From the Website:
This Four Level Cat House will satisfy all of your cats desires – leaping, scratching, and of course – napping! This piece of cat furniture has a cradle area, two round loft beds, and a play tunnel. Cats love the loft bed – it gives them a high place to perch and snooze. You cat can jump from bed to cradle, or just stretch out and enjoy the view! And your little furry friend will spend hours playing ‘peekaboo!’ in the tunnel! Not only is this a terrific cat lounger, it also is a scratching post. A solid pine pole is wrapped in all-natural sisal rope, which provides an outlet for busy paws. Available in nine colors – Cream, Tan, Brown, Red, Navy Blue, Country Blue, Green, Gray, and Hunter Green. With such a range of colors, you’re sure to find one for even your most finicky of felines. And remember – not only do cats love having their own area, but a good scratching post will deter your cat from scratching your furniture!

What cat wouldn’t think he or she was in cat Heaven with this outstanding cat house?!?!

Hagen CatIt Fresh & Clear Small Drinking Fountain for Cats ()

Alexa picked up a cute little habit from Prissy – wanting her water to come from the faucet. She’ll perch on one of the bathroom sinks and wait for someone to come along and run her personal little water fountain for her.

I was searching online for a cat window perch earlier when I came across this Hagen CatIt Fresh & Clear Small Drinking Fountain for Cats. How perfect! I think all cats really prefer fresh, moving water and this fountain gives our pampered babies just what they want.

Product Description:
CatIt Fresh & Clear Small Drinking Fountain for CatsProvide an indoor source of moving water that will encourage your pet to drink more with the CatIt Fresh & Clear Small Drinking Fountain. The large water-to-air surface area maximizes oxygenation for fresher, better tasting water. Water is cooled and aerated by the re-circulating system while the multi-stage filtration consisting of a dual-sided foam and activated carbon filter rids your pet’s water of debris and impurities. Also suitable for small dogs.

I think we can categorize this as a MUST HAVE for pampered pets!

Yes, indeed, this is a proud cat-loving, cat-celebrating blog – and the human on this side of the words loves cats to total distraction. But, I have to admit (just not in earshot of my 5+ cats – the + is courtesy of Ming Li’s overactive drive to populate the animal kingdom) I’ve got nothing but love for dogs. No, they aren’t cats, but they are absolutely amazing.

These videos below are a few of my favorite dog videos of the past year – or any year, for that matter.

1. First up, Gracie! Gracie’s owner, Lt. Andrew, returns home from duty overseas. Gracie is so overwhelmed that she wiggles uncontrollably and cries for joy in his arms. Precious! Apparently Lt. Andrew had expressed concerns about Gracie remembering him because as she’s showing her joy and love, you hear a female voice saying, “I told you!” I can’t watch this one without tearing up.

2. Look out for the cute factor in this one! This French bulldog puppy can’t quite master turning over and it is too cute to behold. Look at that face.

I’m not even lying, over the course of my life I’ve had more pets than I could even name in an hour – and most of them have been cats. I haven’t lived an unusually LONG time, I’ve simply had a large number of cats at a time over the years! We lived waaaay out in the country (on land with a big red barn) once and the kitty population absolutely exploded!

Now that I think about it, we’ve never really had much of a mouse problem.

A few of the biggest characters over the years have been Siamese cats. Solo was a much-beloved cat I had from the time I was about 8 until I was married. He was gorgeous with the most incredibly blue (crossed!) eyes. He had a mean streak in him that we all got a huge kick out of. Sometimes, when my dad was standing in front of the mirror shaving, Solo would sneak up behind him, turn his head to the side and bite him on the ankle. My dad cut himself more than once. When we heard, “Owww!” – we knew Solo had struck and drawn blood.

Another Siamese we had was when we lived in the country. His name was Shy-Si and he meowed constantly. Any time we looked outside, Shy-Si was talking – either to another cat, the door, his food, one of the cars… didn’t matter. He simply loved the sound of his voice.

I think all Siamese cats love the sound of their voice, and why wouldn’t they? It’s almost musical.

If you love Siamese cats too, you’ll love the products in this post. The I Love Siamese Cats Hooded Sweatshirt, above, would let the rest of the world know just how much you love this beautiful, magnificent cat.

There are similar t-shirts available as well – for ladies and men.

I also love the I Love Siamese Cats Tote Bag, below. Gorgeous!

Click either of the links to order your own. While there, be sure to check out the I Love Siamese Cats buttons, tees, and other merchandise.

Alexa

Let’s just be honest – few things are anywhere near as cute as a dog or cat with a toy. A dog with a toy bone or a cat with a catnip mouse could melt the coldest heart.

But are their toys actually harmful to them? Of course, every good pet parent knows to look out for small items that their babies could choke on and we all know to avoid anything painted or sharp. However, as a recent article on ASPCA shows, there are some things we might not know.

For the health and safety of your furry babies, read the article linked below, then double check the toy box (or, in our case, toy baskets!)

How Safe are Your Pet’s Toys?

I think I need about a dozen of these. The weather’s already cooling off and our outside babies would love nothing more than their own personal heated little beds. Even Alexa, who rules from within the house would love a Thermal Pet Bed. Can you say COZY?!?!

Older cats would especially benefit from a warm and cozy bed like this. Their little, tiny frail bones would think they were in paradise.

From the Website:
Keep your best friend warm and cozy! Plush polyester pet beds are thermal insulated, so your pet stays warm or cool and always comfortable. Stain-resistant material protects from little “accidents.” Fun paw print design reverses to solid tan. Two sizes for small to medium dogs or cats. Machine wash, line dry.

Click through the image or the link to read more – your baby would love one of these!
