Signs of Feline Asthma
The signs of asthma in cats are very similar to those seen in humans:
- Difficulty breathing - seeming to have a hard time taking breaths.
- Cats with asthma may wheeze, which is an unmistakable rattling when inhaling or exhaling.
- There may be coughing which sounds alot like gagging.
- When she’s having difficulty breathing, a cat will sit with her neck out and inhales and exhales rapidly, with her mouth wide open.
These signs can come on rapidly and can be extremely frightening to watch. Needless to say, take the cat to her vet right away. Bear in mind that while your cat is having trouble breathing, do everything in your power to keep her calm - eliminate all stress and anxiety from your actions and voice. It’s just like dealing with a child - the animal will pick up on our emotions, which is why it’s so important for us to keep our heads even when inside we’re falling apart!
Again, if your cat ever has ANY difficulty breathing, take her to the doctor - it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Always.
