Carly Update!
As I’ve said in previous posts, we’ve been battling a very grouchy little cat around our house. Carly has, for some time now, been extremely asocial and agressive toward other cats, even to her own kittens.
She growls, hisses, and even slaps when the others come near her, which thankfully isn’t too often.
I started thinking that it’s probably a territorial thing. She was the only kitten her mother had, and then her mother disappeared when she was only 6 months old (disappeared or fled, as Carly’s always been a little terror!) So, Carly was our only outside cat for over a year. Just her….her bed, her chairs, her cat food, her home, her family…. Next thing you know, she has four other cats all lying in her furniture, eating off of her dishes, etc.
So, I fixed up a little special place by the back door, with a special little house (I confess, I even bought her her own baby blanket) - and a table where I serve her food, separate from the others. I’m making sure that only Carly is allowed in the house and that the others don’t get on her table. So far, so good, because frankly having her off to herself suits them as much as it does her!
She’s acting better, although she won’t win any Miss Congeniality awards. She’s letting me pet her more…she even purred for, like, two minutes yesterday while I rubbed her head. Then she saw one of her “kids” and the purr roared into a growl.
Oh well, the two minutes were sweet while they lasted!

[…] She actually was in a pretty good mood yesterday. Steph said that after she posed for a few pics, she let her pet her and even endured a bunch of “sweet talk.” She has been a bit more agreeable since the changes: I gave her her own box, her own baby blanket, as well as her own table to eat on. She’s still my same mean little girl, mind you, but she seems more relaxed now. I wouldn’t want her to lose her spirit and sass, but I am glad to see her dial down a little bit on the hostility! […]
