Important Change to Announce!

Now that Svenn has your attention - we want you to know that all of us (me, Alexa, Bo, Prissy, Svenn, and the precious memories of Adam, Carly, and Renee Elise) are all moving our blog party to a bigger, better, flashier, comfier home. The address is even easier to remember. Instead of http://www.cat-pause.com/blog, now you can find us at http://www.cat-pause.com!
We have moved some of the most recent posts to the new blog - and we’ll continue to move some of the others. This blog will, however, stay up always as an archive. It holds a lot of memories of cats we’ve lost, so I’ll never take it down.
If you currently subscribe to the rss for this blog, please ditch it and subscribe, instead, to the new one. Thanks!!!
See you there,
Joi
Svenn could hypnotize with those beautiful eyes - they’re even more piercing in person. (Did I just say person?)
Classy Classic Cats Calendar

Classic Cats 2008 Calendar

This is a great calendar for those of us who love our cats gladly and madly. I love the zany, funny cat calendars as much as anyone - I’m all for anything that makes me smile out loud, but some rooms have an attitude and air that make something cutesy and fun to feel unwelcome.
This classy calendar would be at home in any room. Click through either image to take a closer look.

Adorable Cat Ornament

If the Night Before Christmas Kitten Ornament
were any cuter, it’d hurt to look at it!
The adorable kitten is reading “The Night Before Christmas” - and why wouldn’t he be?
When you click through the link or image, you’ll see a link to the right that says, “See Other Ornaments.” You’ll find more kitty ornaments than you ever knew existed. I’d like a second Christmas tree to fill entirely with cats. Maybe, just maybe, Alexa would hang out inside it instead of our main tree. My daughter, Brittany, and I were watching Alton Brown last night when we heard something that sounded like the roof coming down. We looked behind us to see little Miss Alexa climbing the tree, knocking everything off on her way up.
When she consented to come down, she went ahead and shredded her way through a few presents and then made off with one of the bows in her mouth.
Not many things can “one up” Alton Brown, but Alexa’s definitely one of them. I have to get my husband or one of my daughters to take some pictures of her in the Christmas spirit. I’d do it myself, but digital cameras and I get along as well as Alexa and Svenn do. Mortal enemies, that’s all.
Be sure to take a closer look at the Night Before Christmas Kitten Ornament
as well as his friends. Most of them are under $8.00.
The Palm Cat Tree

The Palm Cat Tree from Shop.com is at the top of my cats’ Christmas lists. Fortunately, 3 out of 4 of them are always on Santa’s “Nice” List and even “Naughty” Alexa wins him over with her cuteness. When you’re as beautiful as she is, Santa tends to overlook all the needless bird and rodent abuse and subsequent slaughter. He even forgives her for picking on Bo and Svenn. Life’s sweet when you look like an angel even is you usually act like something else altogether!
From the Manufacturer:
Custom made to order, usually leaves our warehouse in 7 - 14 business days. The Palm Cat Tree is one of our newer Cat Tree designs, and is also the perfect scratching post. Small enough to be used where space is limited, but large enough to give your cat hours of enjoyment.
The top of the Cat Tree has a 16″ round padded platform , with a special thermal lining to retain the cat’s body heat while sleeping or just relaxing. Four large petals are designed to “flex” when the cat jumps on them, which makes it earsier on the cat’s joints and you will find older cats getting more use out of this Cat Tree because of this one simple feature. The base is 20″ round giving this Cat Tree added stability and preventing tipping under normal use.
The entire Cat Tree is covered in commercial grade carpeting for years of trouble free wear. Approximate Height: 32″ (2ft 8in) Approximate Width: 24″ Trunk Diameter: 8″ Weight: 30 lbs. Palm Tree Colors: Top: Gold Top Petals: Sage Trunk: Multi-fleck Green/Brown/Tan Base: Tan
Special Features:
*Our molded leaves are designed to “flex” which cushions the landing and prevents excessive wear and tear on joints, especially of older cats (Shout out to Prissy!), when they jump onto the Tree.
*Commercial grade carpeting is used throughout the entire Cat Tree, including the lining inside the holes in the trunk.
*All our beds and larger leaves have a “thermal” lining that retains the cat’s body heat providing greater comfort.
*An extra wide base is added to all units providing greater stability and preventing tipping under normal use.
The Palm Cat Tree is a perfect way to spoil and pamper the precious little ones that mean so much to us! Even those who think it’s their personal mission to wipe out the bird and rodent populations.
The Most Gorgeous Clock in the World
Okay, I’ll admit it. Might as well, right? I was looking around Macy’s.com this afternoon for Christmas gift ideas. Since I’m good at what I do (i.e. shopping), I found tons of ideas. The problem is, for every gift I saw that I wanted to get for someone else, I found something I very much wanted to get for me! I’m trying to show a little restraint, though, since it is the time for giving instead of getting.
But (and I mean a big, fat Santa-size butt), the clock above is an exception. MUST HAVE!
The Infinity Instruments Wagging Cat Tail Pendulum Clock insits on moving in with us and who am I to argue? It’s gorgeous…and, best of all, the cat reminds me of one of the sweetest cats we ever had - Renee Elise, the hugging cat.
From the website:
This charming black cat makes a unique accent for any room. A delightful timepiece features a moving cat tale for a pendulum and a subtle ivory patina.
The clock was originally priced at $50, but it’s on sale (thank you, Macy’s!).
Back to browse for gift ideas, but I wanted to take a moment to share the most beautiful clock I ever saw with you. I can’t tell you how much I love it! She had me at “Hello.”
The Claws are Out in New York City

Lardy, a Ragdoll cat, plays with a toy bird during a media preview for The Cat Fanciers’ Association 5th Annual CFA-Iams Cat Championship in New York October 10, 2007
Me-ow! New York City will be taken over by cats this weekend.
The 5th annual show, run by the Cat Fanciers’ Association, the world’s largest registry of pedigreed cats, will feature 325 cats and 41 different breeds, from American Curl to the Egyptian Mau, strutting their stuff at Madison Square Garden.
“People want their cats to win here,” said Pam DelaBar, president of the association. “The same rule applies for these furry creatures. If they can make it here in New York, they can make it anywhere.”
Yeah, she went there.

DemoCat Toys

Politically-speaking, our cats are divided - two are Republicans, two are DemoCATS. Ha Ha…
Radio Controlled Mouse

Check (book) please! I see an awful lot of fun in store for Alexa and Bo, and for those of us who call ourselves humans, on most days anyway. Prissy (who you’ll remember is as old as Noah’s great grandmother) will probably glance at it twice before heading off to (1) bed, (2) her food dish, or (3) the bathroom sink. Svenn would be deathly afraid of it, so much so that I probably won’t even let him see it - too much trauma for my little guy, his high strung nerves couldn’t take it.
But Alexa and Bo will go positively ape stuff for the Spot “Micro Mouse” Radio Controlled Mouse.
From the Website:
Grab the controls & watch your kitty go crazy for this remote controlled mouse! You literally drive the mouse with the controller and watch your cat chase after it!!!
Too perfect!
The Aristocats Cat Food Line is a Hit!

Disney (a name that brings a smile to just about every face, including mine) has launched, mouse ears first, into the $75 billion global pet care industry ($36 billion in the U.S., alone) with lines of products for cats, dogs, fish, and hamsters. I believe they started with an Old Yeller line of dog food products.
I really first took notice when I saw their Aristocats Cat Food on the shelves at Kroger. Our babies love to try new goodies, so I bought one of each flavor. (On a side note, the cans are perfectly adorable, with scenes from the movie on the side.) This was, honestly, one of the only brands of cat food that our cats, unanimously, loved. Whiskas and Aristocats now stand as the only two “wet food” varieties that result in extremely happy cats and over-licked cat dishes around our house.
Prissy and Bo will absolutely eat anything you set in front of them. As though she was determined to prove it, the other day an olive fell off of my pizza and Prissy ate it before I could pick it up. Then she wanted more but I just couldn’t feel good about myself feeding olives to a cat.
Svenn and Alexa are pickier than Bo and Prissy. Usually, he only likes dry food (and only some brands, at that), but he threw himself into the Aristocats cat food. They’ve all requested that I grab more cans on my next Kroger trip. I’m a soft touch, so OF COURSE I’ll do just that!
Apparently, Disney is also planning to launch a line of cat products from the movie “That Darn Cat.” My test panel is looking forward to it!
Getting Your Cat to Take Her Medicine

Ingenious!
If you’ve ever had the “pleasure” of trying to convince a cat that taking a pill is a great idea, you know how clever these Pill Pockets for Cats
are.
The website promises to take the hassle out of giving your cat her pills - by taking the hassle out of the situation, I’m certain that means the scratches and hisses as well. Thanks be to God that my beloved Carly never had to have any medications. I doubt I’d be here today if that need had ever come up. I’d have gone down trying to help my girl, but her temper would have finished me off.
The Pill Pockets are available in two flavors: Chicken or Salmon. They’re made from all human-grade meats plus other high quality, healthy ingredients. Even Svenn would consent to give them a try.
